Yesterday while friends were completing the Oxfam Trail Walk,  I was deeply engrossed in rewriting a section of my novel and it was going well.  A character was developing. I had a pronominal urge to write and did not want to stop writing lest the great ideas stop flowing as freely and as well as they were coming.

I went four hours beyond the time I had planned to exercise, as I knew my novel, which is for me a very important goal, would suffer if I left it at that stage.
I kept postponing the deadline to stop writing and get some exercise.
I have wanted to write this novel since I was thirteen years old.  That is 52 years of postponing something I had wanted to do.  My mother held this same goal and died before realizing it.  I turn 65 this year.  Every year from now on increases my risk of dementia and never having the brain capacity to write my novel.  I MUST write my novel this year.   Maybe this is why they say seniors need less sleep than younger people, lol :-) maybe a lot of us are perusing an extreme goal as we know time is running out for us and it is now or never.  Our goal means we have to make cuts somewhere and sleep is one of the things we may need to cut back on (within pre-set sane living limits) in order to achieve the goal.

Recently voted one of the ten healthiest people in Australia by The Herald Sun, author, journalist, martial arts expert and one time Gladiator, TIFFINY HALL (see photo), has is the new addition to the Biggest Loser training family and seems well qualified and has the 'looks' that the TV producers love.

After the TV trailers for The Biggest Loser, Australian Families series,  I have mixed feelings about watching it.
I am concerned it might be the biggest dysfunctional family this year and not sure how I feel about that, I don't usually watch airing the dirty laundry reality shows. I loved the positive master class sessions of last seasons. I will be turning it off if it is teenagers squabbling with mum sessions.  I  plan to work out on the tread mill and bike while watching it but if I see Reg 'cringe', it goes off. I like happy homes.

I will of course be wearing my BodyMediafIT and seeing  how many calories I can burn while watching it. That is my challenge to myself and I am eating, healthy, delicious meals according to my body's hunger signals as my healthy eating plan. 

Twas the month after Christmas, And all through the house, Nothing would fit me, Not even a blouse....

Thanks friends for your tips on housekeeping, but here is the status.   I will stick to my creative arts and gardening. lol.  Less than a few hours and I quit housework aside from the essentials.

Today's effort:
I cleaned the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen, returned to the bathroom and told someone off, re cleaned bathroom, cleaned bedroom returned and recleaned kitchen recleaned bedroom, recleaned bedroom again, returned the bathroom and kitchen saw it was a mess and returned and recleaned bedroom, happy the lounge room has been a mess all morning. 

My man has relaxed with a magazine I can see him grinning at me over the jack3d add on the back cover.  He finished having his shower and getting breakfast so the bathroom and kitchen should stay in the happy state of disarray until I feel like changing it again which will not be until I cook dinner. Chicken Mushrooms, and Marsala Beans for tea tonight, I cook enough fir three meals at a time and freeze the leftovers, that’s my housekeeping tip, I always prepare multiple meals at once for those, no time to cook moments we get a lot of here.


I went out and planted 2 pots of dwarf beans, bedroom is still clean because Reg is now settled in the lounge room reading. 
All is good with the world. I looked at Fly lady and decided she is not living with someone with frontal lobe degeneration and I had best stick to household tips from Phyllis Diller and apply a lot of love and humour to the job and be happy to live in a 'Don't invite anyone except your bests friend over', state. :-).

From all this I learned a new way I could try to explain frontal lobe degeneration to my friends.  When they see my husband they see a normal adult, a beautiful man, which he is.  The thing is he cannot plan more than one step ahead. To him the towel r the apple at the bottom of the pile is identical to the one at the top and if you want it you just reach for it and pull….. 

Now Phyllis Diller’s trick of swishing that all into a corner and throwing a rug over it, arranging a bowl of flowers in front of the covered mess and  sticking an easel up in the middle of the room so people will say ‘you are artistic’, sounds good to me.  No I am not going to try to ‘stay on top of it’, lol, I will read through fly lady and see if there is anything there that is useful, maybe there is a chapter in there on dealing with autism or dementia, housework under the circumstances of being a carer for someone with an illness of the brain is not exactly the same as just  being a housekeeper.

Fine Gourmet Food, on a Weight, Management, Diet?  Why Not? The French can do it, can’t they?

Can you lose weight without dieting or without exercise? 
Can you really eat all the fatty and unhealthy foods that you love and still lose weight? 
Some claim the French seem to do it, right?

Well, the secret for the French and a number of other countries in general is actually portion control and more exercise. They do not count calories or just eat healthier foods. They eat less and exercise, which is something that the average Australian and American citizen does not recognize. No food is actually, fattening, it is when you eat and how much that makes the difference. The secret of weight control is in portion size.

Bone health is one of my pet subjects. I have a personal need to know how to maintain and build bone density and I try to help other women and men, become more aware that the standard western lifestyle is creating a nation of seniors with crumbling bones, but we can change this with knowledge and action.

When I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, in January 2009, I spent that year studying all I could about bone health and putting what I learned into action.  I do not take drugs for this condition, I am very concerned about the danger of the current drug treatment but that does not mean I do nothing.  I do a great deal, both nutritionally and in physical activity working closely with a bone health certified practicing dietician and the exercises recommended by the Osteoporosis Association of Australia.

Vitamin D
I have an interest in this also, because in May 2009, I had my Vit D levels checked and I found that despite a lifestyle outdoors with adequate sunshine, I was Vitamin D deficient. I have needed to take Vitamin D3 supplements and have my Vitamin D regularly monitored by blood tests. It seems that many overweight women in particular and also seniors may not be absorbing Vitamin D through their skin or metabolizing it properly.  This was no doubt a large contributing factor to my having developed osteoporosis.  Now I know, I can fix this underlying cause while working on improving all other aspects of my life that will affect my bone health.

Guidelines
New guidelines on sun exposure and vitamin D deficiency have been recently released. Importantly these guidelines were developed from experts in both the skin cancer and osteoporosis fields. These guidelines will help inform Australians about how much sun they need to avoid vitamin D deficiency and at the same time stay healthy without increasing their risk of skin cancer. Read more...
