Reg our dog Indigo and I go for a walk most mornings and enjoy the garden views. Sharing the hanging baskets, in bloom, on this beautiful, spring day. On my morning walk, I stop near this van to admire the hanging baskets. A couple of men are usually sitting in the shade house smoking cigars. What a delightful outdoor sitting room these men have created for themselves. A Job Well Done. 10/08/2010
"People forget how fast you did a job -- but they remember how well you did it." Quote, Howard W. Newton. Flowers from the artist's garden. Ah how I love my garden. It does not matter how stressful a day could be, no worries if I have been trying to advise someone on avoiding a apidexin scam or just hedging spam emails I can walk into the garden with my morning tea and contentedness swells through me. New Ideas. 10/08/2010
"A person's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions." Quote Oliver Wendell Holmes. Just as well our overstretched stomachs at Christmas time and after other family feasts, can regain its portions or we would all be looking how to get rid of stomach fat. Usually a few weeks if careful healthy portion controlled eating and exercise gets us back on track after a seasonal eating blow out. So don't panic diet, just think life balance and healthy if you have recently gained excess weight and you will be fine :-). Flowers in these photos are from my garden. Executive Action 10/08/2010
I like this quote. "The best executive is one who has sense enough to pick good women to do what she wants done, and self-reliance enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it." Flowers are from my own garden. Last week I planned on going on paint out on Friday. Instead I found myself cleaning out the shed. Gosh the things I had in storage out there, including my best acne face wash from 40 years ago, lol, I think it was time to throw away skin care way past its use by date by decades. Mind you I did a great job of the clean out and I’m thrilled it is done and I bought some flowering orchids from my neighbour and pansies in pots to pretty up the front of my veggie garden as they were also doing a back yard clean out. I got heaps done today :-). One comment, when buying things remember to ask for a discount. I did today and they took 35% OFF the price of my bill, I would have paid full price. I too have to always keep remembering to say, 'can I have a discount please', when I shop at places aside from the obvious no discount supermarket. I was buying 4 European pillowcases, :-), they were needed and are beautiful too. OK :-) It is a lot easier for me to get things done than for my daughters who have two children with all their xbox kinectxbox games, xbox consoles and kit around the house and a TV it seems in every corner of every room. These days every grandchild wants thier own laptop computer and expects access to a fully stocked study office with desktop computers and printers. My children only needed a few exercise books. The planned paint out today did not happen. Reg wasn't his best so I let it go for now, there will be another time. NAILED, my entire action plan to do list items, to get me to goals I want. I did some art studio preparation work, some novel writing preparation, budget spot on, these pillowcases were planned for and needed, I exercised, and I also planned a 36 week full body workout increasing intensity program and a 40 week walking program. I need to scurry along now, and I will also get to bed on time and get my 7-8 hours’ sleep. I spent another $20. On tomatoes and cucumber seedlings as the frost last night badly hit one section of my vegetable garden. My plans tomorrow will be to replace the damaged ones and make another garden bed on the roadside bank and plant more peas and beans. Finishing, with a showing of my garden flowers again. Sneaky Wife. 09/28/2010
I love anything to do with our garden. We also made a little profit on the side from the garages sale we held on Saturday. Everyone stopped to admire the garden. When Reg and I drove home from our last drive from Murchison, I saw what looked like twin cigar shops in a little country town. The entire town had an old world charm with wide verandas and veranda posts. I would love to return there to paint. Now I want to go out on the paint out this coming Friday but I am too smart, lol, to plan paint out. I don’t need to, all the paint out materials are already packed in the car. No I am planning a fishing spot recognisance mission, lol, now that will interest Reg and while he looks in the water to see if he thinks it’s a good spot to fish, I will be assembling the French easel. Lol, Sneaky wife. Magpies Swooping Season. 09/05/2010
Magpies Swooping! My youngest granddaughter came to visit today and she was swooped on and bitten on the head by a magpie. They have been vicious lately. Reg always wears a hat when he walks, I must remember, to do the same. Magpies can be scared away by some clothes, my grandchildren were hats with eyes painted on the top of them when they are in the bush this time of year to keep the Magpies away. I wonder how the magpies would react to vampire sexy halloween costumes. Swooping birds can be a frightening experience, magpies are among the most aggressive when it comes protecting their eggs and young during breeding season. You can also download a 'Swoop Off' Kit, which contains a printable set of ‘eyes', a warning sign and a top 10 tips fact sheet. Most birds will swoop within 30-50 meters of their nest, Swooping birds can cause injuries. They usually attack with their beaks and aim for the scalp, face or eyes. If bike riders are swooped they could lose their balance, fall off, or ride into the path of cars. A bird swooping can be a frightening experience for children. Swooping birds can also spook horses. Most birds swoop only during the nesting and rearing period. They are only trying to protect their territory, nests, eggs and young. Most swooping behaviour is a For more information you want more information about swooping birds please contact the DSE Customer Service Centre on telephone 136 186. I have several Cymbidium Orchids I raised from babies in flower. I find them very easy to grow and consider them hardy perennials here in Victoria. I even took a tour in our caravan with rv towing insurance arranged before we left home, and with my cymbidiums orchids on board with us. I exhibited them at shows around the country and had the pleasure of winning a few awards with them. Cymbidiums In their natural habitats, cymbidiums grow at the higher altitudes in the temperate zone of mid-Asia (China, Japan) down through southeast Asia and extending south of the equator with a number of species in Australia. The climatic conditions found there are also found at sea level in the coastal regions of California (USA), along the coast in the Mediterranean and in part of New Zealand and Australia as well as South Africa. They are also grown under greenhouse conditions in many other parts of the world. The cycle of cool nights and warm days during the spring months in theses regions is necessary for flower spike bud formation. Warmer weather in the summer enhances the growth and development of the flower spikes for the following season (winter into spring). TEMPERATURE Cymbidiums will tolerate extremely hot summer heat and winter cold down as low as freezing. In extreme heatwaves cool plants by with misting with water in the middle of the day and water in the cool of the evening. SUNLIGHT During the spring, summer and fall growing season, plants should have as many hours of filtered sunlight as possible (approximately 50% shade cloth or I like to grow mine under the open canopy of deciduous trees. The colour of the foliage should be golden-green (plants with rich, dark green leaves are very likely not receiving sufficient light). If when you hold your hand between the sun and the plant, your hand does not cast a shadow, the plant is not getting enough natural light. 2 Weeks till Spring Fever. 08/19/2010
I am having a lovely day, feet up on the couch, wearing my favorite cardigan sweaters looking out over my garden and reading inspirational verse about springtime. It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain |
